Simple Top Sewing Workshop
Create your own relaxed, easy-to-wear top — a versatile piece that works beautifully with jeans, skirts or trousers.
This workshop is perfect for beginners and confident beginners alike. We’ll guide you step by step, from threading the sewing machine to finishing your seams neatly, so you leave with a top you’ve made entirely yourself.
What you’ll make
A relaxed, simple top with wide sleeves and a clean neckline finish.
The loose shape makes it comfortable to wear and a great first garment project.
What you’ll learn
- How to thread and confidently use a sewing machine
- Understanding seam allowances and grain line
- Cutting fabric accurately using a sewing pattern
- Sewing shoulder seams and side seams
- Attaching and finishing a simple neckline facing
- Finishing hems neatly for a clean, professional look
What to bring
Everyone must bring their own fabric.
Fabric requirements
- Wide-width fabric (approx. 140–150cm wide): 1.5–2 metres
Suitable fabrics include linen, cotton lawn, cotton poplin, double gauze, chambray, or other light to medium-weight woven fabrics.
Avoid very thick fabrics or stretchy fabrics for this project.
You’ll also need:
Matching thread
Please prewash your fabric before the workshop, as natural fibres may shrink.
A relaxed, practical project designed to build confidence — and send you home wearing something you made yourself.
