Intro to Sewing – Adult Workshop
Skill level:
Perfect for complete beginners or anyone with very little sewing experience.
This is a relaxed, supportive workshop where you’ll be gently introduced to both the sewing machine. No previous experience is needed — everything is explained step by step, at a calm and friendly pace.
Groups are also kept very small to allow everyone to work on similar or individual lessons.
What you’ll make
You’ll have a few options during this session:
- A cushion cover with an invisible zip, or
- Simple mending, or
- A freestyle project (bring your own idea)
If you’d like guidance on choosing an alternative project, feel free to send me a message once you’ve booked and I’ll be happy to help.
What you’ll learn
- How to thread and confidently use a sewing machine
- Sewing in a straight line, reverse stitching, and finishing seams
- Understanding fabric types, grain line, seam allowances, pinning, and marking
- How to insert a zip
- How to finish raw edges neatly using the sewing machine
What to bring
- 50cm of cotton fabric (please avoid velvet or silk)
- Matching thread
- 40cm zip
Once your cushion is finished, there will be time to move on to mending an existing garment if you wish.
If you choose to bring your own project, please check the back of your sewing pattern in advance to make sure you bring the correct amount of fabric and any required notions.
You’re also very welcome to purchase fabric and supplies in the studio on the day.
