Skill level:
Suitable for complete beginners with little or no sewing experience, as well as confident beginners with some basic knowledge.

What you’ll make
A simple elastic-waisted midi skirt. The length can be adjusted to suit your style.
What you’ll learn
- How to thread and confidently use a sewing machine
- Practising straight stitching before starting your skirt
- Understanding fabrics, grain line, seam allowances, pinning, and marking
- Creating a waistband and inserting elastic
- Neatly finishing raw seams
Session length
4 hours
What to bring

2–2.5 metres of wide-width fabric (approx. 140cm wide)

2m is usually enough for a standard midi length

2.5m is recommended for a longer length or fuller skirt

- Suitable fabrics include quilting cotton, cotton poplin, linen, light canvas, or light/medium-weight denim chambray
- Matching thread
An old duvet cover also works well for this project.
Please prewash your fabric before the session, as shrinkage may occur.
You’re also very welcome to purchase fabric in the studio on the day, with 20% off for workshop attendees.
