Skill level:
Suitable for anyone over the age of 18 wanting to learn about how to get started with sewing at home.
This is a relaxed, supportive workshop designed to help you feel confident using a sewing machine. We’ll take things step by step, with plenty of guidance, questions encouraged, and no pressure to be perfect.
This session focuses on all the practical basics — including the things that are often missed online — so you leave with a solid understanding of how your machine works and how to troubleshoot common issues at home.
What you’ll learn
-
How to thread and confidently use a sewing machine
-
Practising straight stitching
-
Finishing raw edges on medium-weight and lightweight fabrics
-
Understanding fabric basics, seam allowances, and grain line
-
Machine care, tension, and troubleshooting common problems
What you’ll work on
You’ll practise on a selection of fabrics to build confidence and understanding, rather than focusing on a finished project. This allows you to really get to grips with the machine and fabric handling.
What to bring
You don’t need to bring anything with you except a notebook and pen if you want to take some notes.

All machines, tools, and practice fabrics will be provided.
